When it comes to serving others, I have often said to God: “I have but one life to live, and only one life to give.” He always responds with, “So, what are you waiting for? What’s holding you back? Don’t you remember what I said to Job? (Job 38-39) That should tell you who is really in charge. Really, who should you fear but Me? You are a courageous man, you accepted the offer of Salvation from my Son, but you continue to hold the reigns of a life I so graciously provided. Have you not heard it spoken, “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.?” (Matt. 10:39) I responded to God “Yes, I have heard it and read it. But God, you don’t understand how hard it is to let all of myself go!” He said, “James, you are quite mistaken in your thinking. Do you not remember who I gave, in payment, so that you may live the life I freely gave to you?” Immediately after God’s questioning I cried out to God: “I am not my own!” And “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”(Mark 9:24) Believing isn’t a onetime action, it’s an ongoing process. To extract the fullness of belief, we must by the Power of the Holy Spirit, daily explore and conquer the valleys of our unbelief. Only by the constant filling of the Word of God can this be accomplished. Hey, I can believe my car is full of gas. However, if I fail to fill my tank regularly I find myself believing in “Full” when the needle is on “Empty.” The truth is my inaction has left me immobile. And an immobile Christian servant; is a couch potato Christian.
