A Tumor Called “Shame”

If let fester, shame, can become malignant and counterproductive to one’s reception of Grace. Oh, but hope is not lost, the Grace of God has the power to excise the tumor of shame, backfilling shame’s chasm with our creator’s flood of acceptance. Remember, God’s Grace appeared not because we deserved or earned it, but “because He (God) loved us first.” Dr. Smedes says, “”Shame is heavy; grace is light. Shame and grace are the two counterforces in the human spirit: shame depresses; grace lifts. Shame is like gravity, a psychic force that pulls us down. Grace is like levitation, a spiritual force that defies gravity. If our spiritual experience does not lighten our life, we are not experiencing grace. . . .”
