Being Good Soil

For seed to consistently bear fruit, it needs continually to be received into good soil.  “But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” (Matt. 13:23)

In this parable Christ gives us a vision of reception through the process of fertilization.  When the seed, soil, and fertilizer combine reception occurs, and conception is realized.  Then the deeper life begins.  We have all heard of reaping and sowing.  But, have we heard of receiving and growing.  Let us continue to be the furrow that receives God’s word.  Let us continue to be available rich soil, for the Spirit of the Root of Jesse (Isaiah 11:10) to fill, use, and enjoy.

How to receive: For the sake of Christ?

By considering our self “fruitful good soil” instead of “lifeless bad dirt.”

By becoming a “receptacle” instead of “spectacle.”

By becoming “vulnerable” instead of “impenetrable.”

By finding our self “Worthy” instead of “Worthless.”

By loving God’s Image in others regardless of their behavior toward or against us.

“Receiving is continued believing, and believing continued continues receiving.”

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)

People chase feverishly after worldly (temporary) happiness. They give their earthy fortunes for it. Some have even sacrificed relationships in pursuit of it. Why? Well, maybe because they know not where true happiness lay. Man or Woman will never find happiness in magical potions or temporal trappings. Happiness, in its pure form is found only by mining treasures, found within God’s word, and then applying them to one’s life. A successful mining operation takes effort and perseverance. Successful self-application requires trust in the source. If the source isn’t trusted most generally it isn’t applied or adhered to. Trusting the Word of God is synonymous with trusting God Himself. Gold held in the hand will soon perish. God’s word held in one’s heart will provide enduring happiness. “He that giveth heed unto the word shall find good; And whoso trusteth in Jehovah, happy is he.” (Prov. 16:20 ASV).
