God Can Use the Broken Man

On a park bench in a lovely garden, a man sits, bent over with his forehead in his hands sobbing uncontrollably.  This man, an upstanding man in his community, at his job, loved by all; so, why the sobbing you ask?  Because, deep inside of him he knows this isn’t enough there has to be more.  Somehow he knows there is more.  Some years ago this man, a church going man, walked forward in church and gave his life to Jesus.  He gave his heart and his mind.   But, shortly after that experience he mentally questioned, “How do I get all of Christ from my mind into my heart?  I know Him and I love Him.  But how, how God?  How can I experience the fullness of Christ from within my heart?” God, in His wisdom and love answers this broken man, “You must clear those obstacles from the path; the path between your mind and heart.  You know what I am talking about, as you can hide nothing from me or my image within you.”  God added, “Go to my word and seek the wisdom my Son revealed to Peter.”

This man after hearing from God, lifted his head from his hands, and wiped away his tears.  He headed for home at the quick step.  He entered his study and removed a bible from the shelf.  Before he opened it he wiped away the thick residue of dust from upon its cover.  He sat at his desk and opened God’s word.  He was directed to the book of Acts, specifically Acts 2:38.  In this Scripture: “Peter said, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”(Amp)

This man, this broken man, a Christian man sitting alone sobbing and crying out to God in desperation was exactly where God needed him to be and how God needed him to approach Him.  God can and will use broken men; because it is broken men whom desire to accept the Spirit of God.  Through this acceptance of God’s Spirit (The Holy Spirit) the fullness of Christ pours quickly and fully from the mind to the heart.  God, we love and understand.  Christ, we love and understand.  However, the Holy Spirit who lives within, who is with the believer every second, every moment, every hour of every day may require a little more effort to get to know and understand.  Most importantly, He may require someone to come clean about some stuff; some painful stuff. And when that someone comes clean the Spirit can take full residence within that someone’s heart.  It is within a pure heart, a clean heart, a Holy Spirit filled heart from which the fullness of Christ pours forth.  In his desperation, in his brokenness, King David cried out to God; “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.”
